Blackbourn takes win, Lightweight Super Stock championship as Lucas Pro Pulling Nationals open at Lucas Oil Speedway

The two-night Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League Nationals opened on Friday night at Lucas Oil Speedway. The final night of pulling action begins at 6 p.m. Saturday.
WHEATLAND, MO. (Sept. 24, 2021) - Talk about wrapping up a championship in style. Terry Blackbourn did just that Friday night as the Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League Nationals opened at Lucas Oil Speedway.
Blackbourn, of Newton, Wisconsin, completed a championship season by piloting “Armed & Dangerous Excessive Force” to the win in the ARP Lightweight Super Stock division - outperforming the other tractor he drove, “Considered Armed & Dangerous.”
Blackbourn’s winning distance was 336.19, less than a foot better than Considered Armed & Dangerous (335.84). Armed & Dangerous Excessive Force also wrapped up the season championship in the class.
“It couldn’t have been any better,” Blackbourn said. “The tractor that won the championship won tonight. It just had a super run. I had two good runs.
“To win the championship, it’s everybody behind me. It takes a team effort to get all these tractors out every weekend.”
Martin Daniel wound up third in “On the Edge” at 330.6. Brice Terry was fourth in “Too Hy-Strung” and Josh Blackbourn, Terry’s son, finished fifth in “Armed & Dangerous Deadly Force.”
Limited Pro Stock Tractors
Gage Schottel, a 17-year-old from Savannah, Missouri, earned the Limited Pro Stock Tractors victory by guiding “Ole Black Magic” to a pull of 333.14.
“It was a lot of fun. I enjoyed every second of it and I look forward to coming back,” Schottel said.
Jarrod Wortman in “Goliath” was second at 319.6 and Ardian Cox driving “Hickory Hooker” completed the podium at 319.41.
The season championship in the class was one filled with emotion.
Bradley Hartman, driving his dad Quinton Hartman’s “International Addiction” tractor, finished 11th on Friday. But just by making the pull, Brad clinched the Limited Pro Stock championship and dedicated it to his Dad, who passed away earlier this week in his hometown of Haubstadt, Indiana.
Bradley Hartman had his Dad’s firesuit hanging over the back of the seat.
“I knew all I had to do with Dad’s tractor was hook it to the sled and not go out of bounds and I’d have a win,” Brad Hartman said. “It still hasn’t sunk in yet. It means a lot. It’s been a long road, but we’re finally here.
“I have to thank my Dad. We unfortunately lost him Wednesday. I know he was riding with me. I had his fire suit hanging on the back of the tractor. He went on one last ride with me.”
ARP Limited Pro Stock Diesel Trucks
Tim Tuttle in “Common Cents” won the Limited Pro Stock Diesel Trucks with a pull of 319.68 feet. Tuttle nipped Chris Barton in “All Too Risky” who had a pull of 319.47. Dalen Bell in “Trailer Trendz” rounded out the podium.
While Tuttle, of Paris, Illinois, won the pull Skylar Leeper, of California, Missouri, wrapped up the Western Series season championship with a sixth-place finish.
Summit Racing Mini Rods
Tyler Slagh in "Have No Mercy" captured the Mini Rod win with a pull of xxxxxx. Slagh, already scheduled to pull near the end of the lineup, had to patiently wait for his run after a surprise rain shower delayed action for a few minutes.
"The first 30 foot didn't even feel good, but we just went wide-open with it," Slagh said of his pull. "The tract actually stuck and it took the power. Everything went right for once.
"That's my first win of the year," the Zeeland, Michigan, driver added. "I've never won here before. To get a run here at Wheatland is an absolutely fantastic way to end the season."
Grayson Shelton of New London, North Carolina, and “Sawed-Off” nailed down the Mini Rod championship.
